POSSIBLE CHOICES - You select the built in settings for different types of lighting, e.g. tungsten, fluorescent, sunrise, etc.
YOU SET THE WHITE BALANCE - You let your camera know what should be the balance. See owners manual for your camera.

The images below were taken in incandescent/tungsten light. The names with the images are the camera settings for the named type of light. As you can see the incandescent/tungsten setting reflects the colors best. The Auto setting is pretty close to that. Notice the varied color casts in the other images.
