- Layers in Photoshop allow you to combine images / text and adjust placement as you work.
- If LAYERS are new for you - check out some of the links on the Information and Resources page.
- Have the Layers Palette visible. (Go to Window menu > Layers)
- For starters - have an image open. Select the Text tool and type text. Select color and size. (Notice that the text is on a separate layer.
- Open another image - copy and paste into the other document. Notice each image is on a separate layer.
- Use the selection rectangle to select a portion of the image on the top layer. (You can set feather size to suit your taste.) Cut (command X). Some of text and image on the lower layer will be visible.
- Select the text layer - and adjust the text to suit your purpose.
- If you will be doing more work on the image - I suggest saving it as a psd file (which will keep all the layers).
- When you have finished - you can save file as JPEG. At that point all the layers will be combined - and you can no longer edit each individually. (See #8 above for reason.)
